Chapter 2: Catching the Adulterer?
The thought of divorce finally stirred Fang Wenbin into action.
His hand trembled violently as he pointed at Mu Wanwan, shouting with bitter resentment, "Mu Wanwan, you will regret this."
"You will definitely regret it!"
"Right now, in the whole of Forty-Nine City, only I can save you. If you don't divorce Fang Yinnian and marry me, then just wait to be sent to the countryside and suffer to death!"
"Oh, what does that have to do with you, weakling?" Mu Wanwan replied indifferently, her sparkling phoenix eyes still scanning the surroundings.
Compared to arguing with this 'weakling,' Mu Wanwan was more curious about her environment.
She had previously researched this era in historical texts and had even traveled to the ancient Blue Star, now completely devoid of any signs of life.
But because it was so far back in time and historical records were scarce, she couldn’t even grasp a rough understanding.
She had only heard that this era was home to many 'ancient' plants she had never seen before, many of which were extinct.
Some were edible, some had medicinal properties.
Mu Wanwan’s plant-based abilities were precious because, besides communicating with plants, she possessed powerful restorative and healing powers.
However, this power had its drawbacks.
It was difficult to upgrade.
Advancement depended on the presence of plants.
But in the interstellar era, let alone finding plants to enhance her abilities, even finding edible plants was a challenge.
Now, though, everything was different.
Mu Wanwan’s eyes grew brighter and more luminous as she took in her surroundings.
She had come to the ancient Blue Star era, a place that might lack advanced technology and harsh words, but was abundant in plants.
Just then, she spotted a small blade of grass growing in the corner by the wall.
She dashed over immediately, crouched down, and cupped the little sprout, praising it softly, "You’re so beautiful."
Fang Wenbin, spewing curses under his breath, thought to himself: Has Mu Wanwan been scared senseless by the countryside?
"Mu Wanwan, are you even listening to me?!" Fang Wenbin’s face twisted in rage, "I told you to divorce Fang Yinnian and marry me. Only I, Fang Wenbin, can save you now—"
"Are you a broken record?" Mu Wanwan reluctantly turned her head, annoyed.
Her face was half-hidden in shadow, but her clear eyes shone like a demon-revealing mirror.
Fang Wenbin, unsure why, suddenly felt nervous and guilty, taking a step back, unable to meet her gaze: "W-what?"
"A broken record, that’s someone mindless who only repeats the negative nonsense over and over."
This creature was a unique product of the interstellar era, feeding on the dark sides of new humans and endlessly repeating them.
On Mu Wanwan’s list of disliked things, these ranked third, just below the despised insect race.
"What stupid thing?" Fang Wenbin pointed at himself, eyes wide: "You dare insult me?"
Fine, Mu Wanwan had confirmed he was indeed an idiot.
Carefully, she plucked the little blade of grass and turned to leave.
She was too lazy to waste words on a fool.
But at that moment—
"Right up ahead! Hurry, hurry!"
"Mu Wanwan, you shameless tramp, stealing my man. Quick, catch her!"
"I want her to suffer!"
Sharp voices filled with malice cut through the night like blades.
Mu Wanwan wasn’t frightened; rather, it was Fang Wenbin who recognized the voices and broke out in cold sweat, trembling all over.
Mu Wanwan had to pass by Fang Wenbin to leave.
Seeing him like this, she raised an eyebrow in surprise and thought this Blue Star-era man was even more useless than she, a low-level support class soldier.
Mu Wanwan made a face at Fang Wenbin and sneered, "Loser."
Feeling it wasn’t insulting enough, and with the ‘catching a cheater’ voices growing closer, Mu Wanwan stopped and faced the feeble Fang Wenbin, snorting with disdain, "Useless loser."
Fang Wenbin, insulted once wasn’t enough—twice was unbearable: "......"
Hidden away, Fang Yinnian, who had been waiting for Mu Wanwan to leave before making his exit, thought: "Is something wrong with this girl? Shouldn’t she be running right now?"
But it was already too late.
"Mu Wanwan, you slut, I finally caught you red-handed!" Suddenly, a group of people with flashlights appeared from a turn in the alley.
Leading them was a woman sporting a Liu Hulan haircut and a bulbous nose. She immediately pointed at Mu Wanwan.
Mu Wanwan didn’t even blink or change expression, merely letting out a disdainful hum.
Her contempt was obvious.
Silence.
The noisy group suddenly quieted.
Usually, in these ‘catching a cheater’ scenes, the accused would fall to their knees begging for mercy.
And the inspectors usually ignored them—if the accused cried and begged more, the punishment was even harsher.
But now… something was off.
"Mu Wanwan, what are you huffing about?!" Dylan Ying was furious to see Mu Wanwan caught cheating yet acting so arrogantly.
What Dylan hated most was Mu Wanwan’s attitude.
This slut was already married but still seducing her brother-in-law.
Shameless!
"You think you can just huff and be fine? Slut, you’re seducing my man!"
Mu Wanwan, unfamiliar with this era, asked, "If you seduce someone, does that mean you get caught?"
"Of course!" Dylan Ying raised her chin, "So you’re doomed. I want you—"
"Then you…"
Mu Wanwan barely finished when Fang Yinnian emerged from the shadows, stepping in front of her and speaking for her, "Take Fang Wenbin away."
Mu Wanwan’s vision darkened, all surrounding light seemed to dim and focus on this tall man before her.
He was really tall.
At least 1.8 meters.
Broad-shouldered, narrow-waisted, wearing a green military uniform like an invincible mech warrior.
Mu Wanwan blinked, suddenly curious who this man was and whether his back looked as good as his stature.
She turned sideways and leaned forward.
Yet before she could see, the man, as if sensing her move, raised his hand to press on her forehead and pushed her back, saying gently and with a hint of helplessness, "Don’t cause trouble."
His voice was familiar, as if she had heard it somewhere before.
While Mu Wanwan was puzzled, Fang Yinnian looked straight ahead at Dylan Ying and the others, his gaze passing over the clutching belly of Fang Wenbin.
"If you’re here to catch someone…," his brow twitched subtly, his tone distant, "…for violating public morals, then take Fang Wenbin away."
"Why? If anyone should be caught, it’s Mu Wanwan, that slut!" Dylan Ying screamed in defiance.
Fang Yinnian’s frown deepened, his voice turning cold. "Because he’s the one seducing my wife."
"Impossible!" Dylan Ying refused to believe it.
"I saw it with my own eyes. Is there any doubt?" Fang Yinnian had no patience to waste on these people; he still had to rush back to the research institute to pack.
His lazy, indifferent phoenix eyes glanced past the flashlight beams, past the hostile inspection team, resting on someone outside the crowd.
That person wore a neat quasi-military uniform, awkwardly buttoned at the collar with a badge, as if deliberately emphasizing his status.
He was the son of the deputy chairman of the Revolutionary Committee, a sworn enemy of the Di family.
Fang Yinnian didn’t know why he was part of Dylan Ying’s ‘catching a cheater’ squad, but that didn’t stop him from making use of the situation.
"My husband is right here. He dares to verbally seduce and grope her."
"If it weren’t for that, I would’ve kicked him to injury," Fang Yinnian said, pointing at the man clutching his belly—Fang Wenbin.
Everyone instantly turned to Fang Wenbin; he clutched his belly awkwardly, unable to decide whether to hold it tight or let go, his face growing uglier with rage.
Mu Wanwan couldn’t place where she had heard this voice before and decided not to think about it.
Just then, subconsciously following Fang Yinnian’s hand, she saw Fang Wenbin’s twisted, ugly expression and muttered softly, "That’s from my kick."
Thankfully, her voice was low; only Fang Yinnian could hear.
Fang Yinnian’s cold eyes flashed with helplessness—he felt Mu Wanwan was being rebellious and unruly at this moment.
Kicking someone—was that something that could be explained?
If he spoke up, things would become complicated.
Moreover, Fang Yinnian didn’t want Mu Wanwan to entangle with Fang Wenbin any further.
He called out, "Comrade Pan Yongdang, what do you think?"
Pan Yongdang, hidden outside the crowd, smiled.
He had unexpectedly learned that Dylan Ying from the Di family had come to ‘catch a cheater.’ He hadn’t planned to come along.
Because the Pan and Di families were fiercely competing for the chairman position, he didn’t want to waste time on trivial matters.
But just before leaving work, he suddenly felt interested and followed along, only to be greeted with this big surprise.
Fang Wenbin was Dylan Ying’s fiancé. If he harassed her, the Pan family would have a lever against the Di family…
Pan Yongdang’s smile widened, dark and sinister: "I think Fang Wenbin should be taken away for interrogation."
