Chapter 12: Little Glutton, Treat Her Well

“All right, move a little farther in.”
After boarding the train and finding their seats, Mu Wangan angrily dropped the two suitcases and sat down, sulking.
Fang Yinnian was both amused and exasperated. He picked up the suitcases, placed them in the luggage rack above the seats, and then stuffed the quilt in after them. As for the bag of food, he pushed it beneath their feet.
Once he had finished, Fang Yinnian suddenly remembered the chocolate Zhu Xiangdang had given him that morning. He took it out and held it in front of Mu Wangan.
“There was no way I was going to let you spend that much money on comic books. Didn’t you think about what you’d eat afterward if you spent it all?”
“Did you want to starve?”
“Of course not!” Mu Wangan replied instinctively, with an air of offended pride.
She looked up and saw the chocolate Fang Yinnian was offering her. Her eyes immediately lit up.
She snatched it from him, tore it open, and examined it from every angle. “Is it good?”
Fang Yinnian released a nearly imperceptible sigh of relief. “I’ve never had it. Why don’t you try it?”
It was a foreign product brought over from Hong Kong, and Fang Yinnian had never seen it before either.
When Zhu Xiangdang had handed it to him that morning, he had originally meant to refuse. He did not eat things like this. But just as the refusal reached his lips, he suddenly thought of Mu Wangan.
After observing her for the past two days, he had discovered that the girl seemed to love sweets.
And so, when he left, he had inexplicably accepted it.
Fortunately, he had.
After putting away the luggage, Fang Yinnian took the backpack from his shoulders and sat beside Mu Wangan. Seeing that she was still only staring at the chocolate, he lifted the corners of his mouth slightly.
“Not going to try it? If you don’t…”
With one hand supporting the backpack in his lap, he pretended to reach for the chocolate with the other.
How could Mu Wangan let him take it? The scoundrel had already seized her money, and now he wanted to steal her chocolate too?
Not a chance!
Mu Wangan turned sideways to shield the chocolate from him, opened her mouth, and bit into it with an enthusiastic “chomp.”
The chocolate was rich and fragrant, melting the moment it entered her mouth. It was slightly bitter at first, but the more she chewed, the sweeter and more delicious it became.
“Yummy~”
“Ahem.” Fang Yinnian clenched his fist to hide his laughter, then remembered to ask, “Are you still angry?”
The chocolate was only about the size of a small palm, and it was gone in two or three bites.
After finishing it, Mu Wangan covered her mouth and turned to face Fang Yinnian. Her round, luminous eyes glittered with mischief. Fang Yinnian had a feeling that the girl was plotting something.
Sure enough—
“If you give me another piece, I won’t be angry anymore.” Mu Wangan secretly began working on her little scheme.
Since arriving on Primordial Blue Star, aside from reading comic books, Mu Wangan’s greatest passion was eating.

She had discovered that everything on Primordial Blue Star was delicious—far better than nutrient supplements.
Mu Wangan swallowed unconsciously and stared fixedly at Fang Yinnian.
“Dream on.” Fang Yinnian poked the greedy little imp on the lips. “There isn’t any left.”
“Then I’ll—”
“If you behave from now on, I might be able to produce another piece.”
Mu Wangan immediately caught his hand and leaned her entire body toward him. “I’m very well-behaved.”
Food makes the mother.
That saying suddenly flashed through Fang Yinnian’s mind.
And also…
Why had this girl leaned over again?
“Sit properly.” Fang Yinnian’s voice turned slightly hoarse. He narrowed his eyes in warning.
Mu Wangan pouted and muttered, “This man is such a nuisance.”
*
Not long after the two of them had settled into their seats, passengers arrived for the two seats opposite them.
They were a man and a woman dressed in uniforms resembling military attire. Once they arrived, the man skillfully helped the woman lift her luggage into the overhead rack. After everything had been put away, the two of them warmly greeted Mu Wangan and Fang Yinnian.
“Comrades, hello. My name is Dong Huiying, and this is Comrade Jiang Guoqiang. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Hello. My name is Fang Yinnian,” Fang Yinnian replied.
“Hello!” Mu Wangan said brightly. She was immediately fascinated by Dong Huiying, who was warm, generous, and strikingly handsome.
Dong Huiying was the first stranger in this world to treat her with such enthusiasm.
Bracing herself against the small table between the seats, Mu Wangan leaned over to study her. “My name is Mu Wangan.”
After a pause, she broke into a radiant smile. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
The afternoon sunlight streamed through the train window, whose glass was dusted with a thin layer of grime.
Perhaps because of that, the light filtering inside carried countless fuzzy motes of dust that drifted through the air like a curtain of radiance, settling upon the innocent young girl before them.
The girl was extraordinarily beautiful, with fair skin, delicate features, and clear, limpid eyes. She looked like a little immortal maiden who had accidentally wandered into the mortal world…
Dong Huiying secretly drew in a sharp breath.
She was far too beautiful.
“H-Hello… No, I mean, it’s, it’s a pleasure to meet you…”
“Hahaha, why are you stammering?” Mu Wangan asked. With both hands propped on the little table and her chin resting on them, she leaned even farther toward Dong Huiying, nearly pressing herself against her.

Fang Yinnian pressed his lips into a straight line. The space between his brows twitched twice before he reached out and pulled someone back into her seat.
“Sit properly. The train is about to leave.”
The instant he finished speaking, the train gave a long, mournful whistle. With the rumble of its wheels, it began to move.
It was actually moving.
Mu Wangan’s attention shifted at once. She leaned against the window and looked toward the platform.
Unlike the crowded scene when they had first boarded, the platform had grown emptier now that the train was departing. Many of those who remained were waving, seemingly bidding tearful farewells to someone.
At that moment, Mu Wangan finally felt a trace of reluctance.
Her willow brows drew together slightly as she thought of Ruxiuhua, who had treated her with such tenderness in the Fang household.
“What’s wrong?” Fang Yinnian easily noticed the change in her mood.
He glanced at the stray lock of hair she had failed to tame that morning, now lying limply across her forehead. His heart softened.
“Would you like some candy?”
Fang Yinnian remembered that there was candy in the backpack.
The backpack he carried held their lunchboxes, food for the journey, and some daily necessities they might need.
He searched through the side pocket and, sure enough, found a bag of White Rabbit candy that his grandmother had slipped inside at the last moment.
The sight of the candy made Mu Wangan miss Ruxiuhua even more.
She did not hide her feelings. Whatever came to mind, she said plainly, without the complexity or concealment common among humans.
“I miss Grandma.”
Fang Yinnian froze for a moment. The aloofness that always seemed to veil his eyes and brows appeared to melt beneath a spring breeze. A jade-like smile touched the corners of his eyes.
“Once we reach the farm, we’ll call Grandma.”
“Mm~” Mu Wangan took a piece of White Rabbit candy, unwrapped it, and slipped it into her mouth.
The milky sweetness seeped through her mouth and into her heart, easing the dull heaviness in her chest. Mu Wangan stole a glance at Fang Yinnian.
“I want another one.”
After being repeatedly restrained by Fang Yinnian—her comic books were gone, her money was gone, and now she had to depend on him—Mu Wangan always treated him with the cautious care of someone trying to survive under the authority of a stern marshal father.
Fang Yinnian shoved the entire bag of candy into her hands and said irritably, “Go ahead and eat.”
“You’re giving them all to me? Ah, Fang Yinnian, you’re the best!”
Mu Wangan hugged the bag of White Rabbit candy and showered it with kisses.
“You two… seem to have a very good relationship.” Dong Huiying glanced at Jiang Guoqiang, then said enviously, “You’re really close.”
“Of course. He’s my husband, so naturally he has to treat me well.” Mu Wangan did not hesitate for even a moment.
The light in her eyes shifted, and the little calculation there was impossible to conceal. She leaned toward Fang Yinnian and rested her head against his shoulder.
“Fang Yinnian, you’ll always treat me well, won’t you?”
