Chapter 47: Everyone Wants It
Ye Xinghe’s expression darkened as a powerful aura radiated from him. In a cold voice, he said, “Rules of the sanctuary? When your Sima family dared to meddle in the sacred grounds, did you ever consider the sanctuary’s rules? Now that you have committed a grave mistake, you use these rules as a shield. Do you think I, Ye Xinghe, am so easily fooled?”
The members of the Sima family felt the overwhelming pressure from Ye Xinghe, their breaths growing shallow and bodies trembling involuntarily.
They understood clearly that if they did not produce the “Spirit Source Creation Pill” today, it would be difficult to escape from Ye Xinghe’s grasp.
But this pill was of immense importance to the Sima family.
An elder of the Sima family stepped forward, his face drawn with worry. “Chief Ye, you may not know this, but the materials required to refine the ‘Spirit Source Creation Pill’ are exceedingly rare. Several of these herbs only grow within our Sima family’s territory, and their growth cycles are extremely long.”
“Each time we refine the pill, it consumes vast amounts of manpower, resources, and wealth. The family’s current stockpile is but a handful of pills, and if we give them up, the cultivation of our core disciples within the family will be severely hindered.”
Precisely because of this, the pill was all the more precious.
Ye Xinghe narrowed his eyes slightly. “I care not for your difficulties. Today, you must hand over the ‘Spirit Source Creation Pill.’”
“If you comply obediently, I may consider refraining from having the sanctuary pursue other charges against your Sima family. Otherwise, the enmity between the sanctuary and your family will never end.”
The Sima family members found themselves deeply conflicted.
They knew Ye Xinghe spoke blunt truth. With his strength, if he truly sought their destruction, the Sima family would be hard-pressed to survive.
Yet to simply give up the “Spirit Source Creation Pill” was a bitter pill to swallow.
After fierce internal struggle, the leader sighed helplessly. “Chief Ye, since you are so insistent, we have no choice but to violate the sanctuary’s rules once.”
“But we ask that you promise this matter will remain confidential. Otherwise, our Sima family will become the laughingstock of the cultivation world.”
Ye Xinghe had not expected them to still care about saving face.
“As long as you obediently hand over the pill, I will keep it secret for you. But if I find any ill intentions, do not blame me for showing no mercy.”
With heavy hearts, the Sima family members slowly retrieved an exquisite jade box from their storage rings.
The leader held the jade box with both hands and respectfully presented it to Ye Xinghe. “Chief Ye, within this box are the only three ‘Spirit Source Creation Pills’ our Sima family possesses. Please accept them.”
Ye Xinghe took the jade box and opened it. Inside lay three plump, glossy pills quietly resting.
A faint spiritual energy flowed over them, clearly marking them as no ordinary concoction.
He nodded with satisfaction. “You are wise to see reason. Let today’s matter end here.”
The Sima family members heaved a sigh of relief, bowed to Ye Xinghe, and then slunk away from the sanctuary.
Watching their retreating backs, Ye Xinghe pondered inwardly.
Perhaps these “Spirit Source Creation Pills” would be an excellent chance for disciples of the sanctuary to boost their strength.
But that was none of his concern!
He was about to turn when several peak elders blocked his path.
These elders held considerable status within the sanctuary. Now, their faces were plastered with smiles, their flattery obvious.
One, named Elder Wang, spoke first, his eyes fixated on the jade box in Ye Xinghe’s hands, his chubby cheeks jiggling with his grin.
“Chief Ye, today you have truly done a great service for the sanctuary. You managed to acquire the Sima family’s ‘Spirit Source Creation Pills.’”
“Since we all belong to the sanctuary, might you spare one for me?”
“There are several exceptionally talented disciples under my peak. If they could receive this pill’s aid, they would certainly become pillars of the sanctuary, contributing greatly to its prosperity.”
Ye Xinghe glanced up at him, memories stirring.
When he first arrived at the sanctuary, weak and inexperienced, this same Elder Wang had not spared mockery.
Once, when Ye Xinghe sought guidance from several peak elders, Elder Wang not only refused to help but openly ridiculed him before many disciples, calling him dim-witted and unworthy of cultivating in the sanctuary, a waste of its resources.
Back then, Ye Xinghe’s feelings towards him could be summed up with two words: spurned contempt.
Now, Elder Wang seemed like a different man, fawning obsequiously before him.
Ye Xinghe sneered coldly. “Elder Wang, do you remember how you treated me when I first asked you for cultivation advice? You called me slow-witted and incapable of greatness. And now you come begging me for this precious pill. Don’t you find that laughable?”
Elder Wang’s face shifted slightly; he gave an awkward smile. “Chief Ye, you are magnanimous to overlook my past offenses. I was blind then. Please pity my disciples; they are devoted to the path. If they receive this pill, they will be forever grateful to you.”
Another elder, Zhao, hurried forward, his eyes narrowed into slits.
“Chief Ye, your fame now echoes throughout the sanctuary. Should this ‘Spirit Source Creation Pill’ fall into your hands, it will surely achieve its fullest power.”
“But you are always kind-hearted. Look at my disciples—though their talents are mediocre, they are diligent and hardworking. If you grant me a pill, they might soar beyond expectations. My admiration for you flows like an endless river.”
He bowed slightly, putting on an air of utmost respect.
Ye Xinghe looked at their faces, full of insincerity, and felt only disgust.
He said coldly, “Elder Zhao, your memory seems poor. We once clashed over resource allocation in the sanctuary. You made things difficult for me and conspired with other elders to suppress me.”
“Now you come begging me. Do you think I would comply?”
Zhao’s smile froze instantly, and he stammered, “Chief Ye, that was the past. I was foolish then, blinded by my own faults. Please, for the sake of the sanctuary, spare me this once.”
Another elder, Sun, had stood aside all along. Seeing Wang and Zhao struck down, he hesitated, but his desire for the “Spirit Source Creation Pill” finally pushed him forward.
With a forced smile, he said, “Chief Ye, you are the sanctuary’s hero. This pill in your hands will be put to the best use.”
“But you have reached such a high realm of cultivation; surely you do not need such a pill. If you give me one today, consider it a great favor owed by my peak to you.”
