Chapter Fourteen: Brother Yu, I, Ma Yue, Pay You My Respect!

“Brother Yu, you called us to the café. Is there something you need to explain to us?”
Ma Yue was, after all, still only a young girl, and in the end she could not resist asking Du Yu.
“Hehe, no need to rush. It’s terribly hot today. Let’s sit for a while and cool off first.”
Du Yu spoke unhurriedly, his tone calm and methodical.
Ma Yue immediately rolled her eyes.
Hmph. He was about the same age as me, yet he acted like one of those old grandfathers who loved keeping people in suspense. Could he have learned that from Grandpa Shi?
Actually, Du Yu truly did possess a patience that none of his peers could match. When it came to composure and self-control, he was second to none.
Of course, Du Yu was not really the same age as the other two. After all, he had lived once before. Who could possibly compete with that?
A knowing smile tugged at the corners of Du Yu’s mouth.
So that was how things were going to be?
He said nothing more, instead silently considering the arrangements to come.
Ma Yue glared fiercely at Du Yu.
Fine, Brother Yu. You win. It has to be you.
Eventually, bored out of her mind, she took out a portable music player and contentedly watched him.
Wang Xiaowei rested his chin in his hands as he watched the two of them.
They were kind of cute together.
A short while later, the waiter arrived. Ma Yue removed the wired earphones from her ears, ready to taste the cappuccino she had ordered—and, while she was at it, find out what sort of strange idea Brother Yu had been keeping secret for so long.
“Sir, your extra-strong Americano. Please enjoy.”
The waiter placed a cup of extra-strong Americano squarely in front of Du Yu. Du Yu nodded at him.
Ma Yue waited several seconds, but her drink never arrived.
She looked up at the waiter. The waiter looked back at her.
What was going on? Why was he looking at me? Where was her coffee?
“Your coffees are ready. Please collect them yourselves.”
A trace of helplessness flashed through the waiter’s eyes, but he still forced himself to say it. Deep down, he grumbled about Du Yu’s bizarre request.
He was only to deliver Du Yu’s coffee, not theirs.

The waiter had never encountered such a strange request before, but after seeing the tip Du Yu gave him, he silently accepted it.
The boss always said that the customer was God, and that was true.
In that case, how could ordinary mortals like them dare interfere in a battle among the gods?
With that thought, the waiter turned and left, leaving Wang Xiaowei and Ma Yue standing there in mild confusion.
Was he seriously doing this? Had Du Yu paid him or something? Were they really supposed to fetch their own coffee?
What they did not know was that Du Yu really had paid him.
Left with no choice, the two of them got up and went to collect their drinks themselves. When they returned, both were naturally simmering with indignation.
Ma Yue took a sip of her cappuccino. It was sweet, and her mood improved considerably. She once again asked Du Yu, this time with even greater curiosity:
“Brother Yu, what exactly are you trying to explain to us?”
Wang Xiaowei nodded. He wanted to ask the same thing. As he thought about it, he gulped down a large mouthful of coffee. He was a little thirsty.
The extra-strong Americano nearly sent Wang Xiaowei to the grave. He almost spat it out. He truly had not expected Du Yu’s tastes to be so outrageously peculiar as well.
The two did not disturb Wang Xiaowei as he carefully savored the coffee. Du Yu was the first to speak.
“Miss Ma, I’d like to ask you something. Just now, a waiter delivered my coffee to me, but no one delivered yours. What was your most immediate reaction?”
Du Yu took a sip of coffee and asked with interest. By now, he was no longer sleepy at all.
“Hmm… I thought it was strange and completely ridiculous. We’re all in the same café, so why were we treated differently? Why did I have to fetch it myself? I don’t even want to come back to this café next time.”
Ma Yue spoke with complete honesty, her words filled with indignation.
“That is precisely what I wanted to convey to you, Miss Ma. Do you understand what I mean?”
Now it was Ma Yue’s turn to be utterly baffled.
Was that what Brother Yu had wanted to say? What did this have to do with anything?
“It’s actually the same principle as running a shop. If we make customers come to the store, buy the goods, and carry them away themselves, that may be fine when they’re only buying one or two fish. But once we start dealing with major customers, what will they think if we still tell them to come and collect everything themselves?
“Once our business grows and our reputation is firmly established, customers won’t even need to come to the store to choose their goods. They’ll be able to call us directly and ask us to deliver them, because they’ll trust the quality of our products.
“Taking it a step further, we could eventually do business with restaurants, major hotels, inns, and so on. If we can provide door-to-door delivery for all of them, wouldn’t that guarantee both our quality and our service? If we’re going to do this, we have to do it properly. We have to do it better than anyone else and make sure our customers are satisfied!”
Du Yu spoke at length, and his grand ambitions were laid bare.
Ma Yue’s expression shifted from confusion to astonishment, and then to profound admiration.
Brother Yu, I bow before you!
She could never have imagined that a boy about her own age could think so comprehensively and plan so meticulously.
“Brother Yu, you’re amazing! I think this idea is far ahead of its time. It’s completely unprecedented!”

The girl certainly had a keen instinct. This idea truly did not belong to this era.
Ma Yue’s praise was extraordinarily high. She could not help wondering just how much more this boy was still hiding.
Seeing that she had no objections, Du Yu said with satisfaction, “The reason I brought you both to the café was because this idea occurred to me on a whim. I wanted you to experience firsthand the impact of this approach, so that you could truly accept my proposal.”
Du Yu spoke with a cheerful smile.
Ma Yue was suddenly touched. He could have simply explained it to her, and she certainly would not have objected. Yet he had chosen to demonstrate it through action, allowing her to feel the effects for herself. Du Yu really did care about her feelings.
His courage, resourcefulness, and determination moved Ma Yue deeply. She gradually began to understand the true charm of putting one’s words into action, something she had learned about back in her student days.
“Act on your words first, then have others follow.”
That was the most vivid impression Du Yu had left on Ma Yue.
It was also the personal charisma Du Yu possessed.
A strange gleam appeared in Ma Yue’s eyes, but vanished in an instant.
Wang Xiaowei was especially observant at times like this. He had clearly noticed that fleeting spark.
Hmm… Things were getting a little sweet. Next time, I’ll order an extra-extra-strong Americano.
Seeing that Ma Yue had completely accepted his idea and that he had achieved his aim, Du Yu continued, “Then let’s discuss the details of the plan. I don’t yet know how much it costs to rent a van for a month, but my initial thought was to rent five to ten vans first. What do you think, Miss Ma?”
Ma Yue froze for a moment, then giggled.
So there were still areas Du Yu was unfamiliar with.
“Brother Yu, a van costs around four hundred yuan a month to rent. If you want ten of them, that’ll be four thousand yuan per month!”
That much?
Du Yu was startled.
“Actually, I think that during the early stages of opening the shop, we won’t have that many delivery orders. Renting three vans to start should be enough. We can still negotiate the price, so leave that to me.”
Du Yu nodded in agreement. This was indeed one of his blind spots. That was why he had presented the idea to Ma Yue as a question. After all, every profession had its own specialty. When faced with an area he did not understand, Du Yu remained humble.
He knew that humility led to progress, while a half-filled vessel was the one that made the most noise.
