Chapter 2: The Language of Cats
At that moment, Xia Qiqi also heard hurried footsteps outside the woodshed, and it sounded like there was more than one person approaching.
Having just transmigrated into a deadly trap, her mind was in turmoil, even somewhat bewildered.
She needed to devise a way to escape quickly, but the footsteps outside grew closer, seemingly heading straight for the woodshed.
In just half a day, Xia Qiqi’s understanding of her situation had been overturned multiple times.
After dying from exhaustion and transmigrating to the ancient era, she could even understand a cat’s speech, and now...
Tonight, Prime Minister Liu intended to silence her forever!
Having died once, she cherished life all the more.
Her heart pounded rapidly as she silently vowed she would not accept death so carelessly.
Before she could steady her panicked thoughts, with a loud bang, the woodshed door was forcefully kicked open.
Xia Qiqi turned to see the stern Steward Yan of the Prime Minister’s residence entering with several palace guards and a nursemaid.
“Xia Qiqi!” Nursemaid Wu poked half her body out from behind Steward Yan and shouted at her, “You lazy girl! So you were hiding here to slack off!”
Xia Qiqi slowly crouched down, scooping the little cat into her arms, lowering her head and softly defending herself, “Nursemaid Wu, I only came to bring Little Ai back to Youlan Courtyard.”
But Nursemaid Wu paid no heed to her explanation, suddenly lunging out from behind Steward Yan.
She grabbed Xia Qiqi’s arm fiercely and dragged her toward the door, “You stinky brat! You’re the last one left!”
Startled by Wu’s sudden yank, Xia Qiqi staggered several steps.
Perhaps frightened by this sudden attack, Little Ai let out a sharp, miserable meow and fiercely scratched several bloody marks onto Nursemaid Wu’s hand.
[What the heck! You hit your litter box cleaner and didn’t even look at me?]
“Ouch!” Nursemaid Wu cried out in pain and released her grip, then turned to Steward Yan, raising her voice in complaint, “Look, Xia Qiqi actually dared to let the cat scratch me!”
“Steward Yan, you saw it too. Nursemaid Wu was too rough and scared Little Ai, that’s why it scratched,” Xia Qiqi looked up at Yan, her eyes reddening as she whispered, “The young lady usually dotes on Little Ai and would never let it be so frightened…”
Since Steward Yan barged into the woodshed with his men, Xia Qiqi was certain that Little Ai’s warning of impending disaster was absolutely true.
Having served as a maid in the Prime Minister’s residence for three years, Xia Qiqi had only seen Steward Yan from afar a few times.
Yet now, to find a lowly maid like her, Steward Yan personally brought several palace guards all the way to such an ill-omened place!
Ah, a death trap!
With no perfect escape plan in sight, Xia Qiqi could only try to buy some time.
“Hmm... Nursemaid Wu, just use some herbal ointment to rub it,” Steward Yan said coldly, casting a brief glance at Wu.
He then turned to Xia Qiqi and said sternly, “Since it’s the youngI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
