Chapter 106: A Change of Command in Kangcheng
Chapter 106: Leadership Change at Kang City
Xiao Yang noticed Tang Ling was silent and quickly asked in a soft voice, “What’s wrong? You’re frowning. Don’t tell me you’re worried about my job situation!”
Tang Ling nodded. “Yes. With the current job market so tough and you used to holding high positions, aside from general manager, I really can’t think of any other role you’d fit.”
Xiao Yang had lived a hard life before. Embracing Tang Ling’s waist, he said, “I can work as a salesperson. Back in college, I did various sales jobs while working part-time.”
Seeing Xiao Yang’s flexibility, Tang Ling also pledged, “Starting tomorrow, I’ll change my mindset and find a respectable job. I can’t be lazy and indulgent like before anymore!”
They both dreamed of the future, but reality was harsh.
After Xiao Yang’s scandal broke out, Kingyi Group tried to suppress it, but it still damaged the company’s image.
The board members in North City jointly petitioned Wang Guocheng, urging him to remove Xiao Yang from his position as General Manager of the Kang City branch.
Wang Guocheng frowned as he read the impeachment letters flooding his inbox.
He acknowledged Xiao Yang’s capabilities. Despite the poor reputation, Xiao Yang was a rare talent in management.
Wang Guocheng called Ding Cheng in North City. “Ding Cheng, draft a document. Kingyi Group will appoint a new general manager to the Kang City branch. His name is Rong Kai. Xiao Yang has resigned due to health reasons.”
Ding Cheng was surprised Wang Guocheng agreed so readily to the board’s demands and actually planned to parachute a general manager into Kang City.
“Boss, you’ve always resisted the board’s pressure. Why agree so easily this time?” Ding Cheng asked.
Wang Guocheng had his reasons. He had intended to place Rong Kai in one of Kingyi’s branches all along, though Xiao Yang’s situation accelerated the plan.
“Don’t worry about it. Draft the document and send it to me. Once I approve, I’ll release the official statement to the media.”
The next morning, the streets of Kang City buzzed with talk of the leadership change at Kingyi’s branch. The biggest shock wasn’t Xiao Yang or Rong Kai—but Yang Yeye.
Yang Yeye never expected the usually quiet and unobtrusive Rong Kai to become the new general manager of Kingyi’s Kang City branch.
At that moment, Rong Kai, dressed sharply in a tailored suit, strode into the Kingyi Kang City office building.
The receptionist, noticing his imposing presence and distinguished aura, warmly approached him. “Sir, may I ask whom you are here to see?”
Rong Kai politely introduced himself. “Hello, I’m Rong Kai. I look forward to working with you.”
Hearing his introduction, the receptionist trembled slightly, apologizing nervously, “I’m sorry, General Manager, for earlier...”
Rong Kai smiled and patted her shoulder. “It’s alright. Ignorance is no crime. There’s no need to be afraid of me—we’re all just ordinary people.”
Surprised by the new general manager’s affability, the receptionist replied shyly, “Thank you, General Manager.”
She then led him to the general manager’s office.
“General Rong, this is your office. We look forward to your guidance!”
As Rong Kai opened the door, he saw Xiao Jing sitting inside. His gaze hardened as he said coldly, “This young lady seems to have come to the wrong office.”
Xiao Jing, feigning fragility, deliberately stumbled into Rong Kai’s arms. “Oh, General Manager, I’m Xiao Jing. Let’s take good care of each other!”
Without a trace of hesitation, Rong Kai pushed her to the floor and scowled, “Miss Xiao, please maintain some dignity. If you want to be a socialite, I wouldn’t mind having you attend various functions on my behalf!”
Xiao Jing hadn’t expected her flirtatious act to repel Rong Kai rather than entice him.
She scrambled up, tugging at the low-cut dress on her chest. “General Rong, you’re really lacking in chivalry!”
Rong Kai looked at her disdainfully. “Put away that disreputable facade. It only disgusts me. Also, from today onward, I do not want to see you in this office.”
Surprised to be rebuffed outright by the new general manager on their first encounter, Xiao Jing stomped her high heels in anger. “Hmph! Who do you think you are? Just a parachuted general manager—I’m not sure your position will last!”
As Xiao Jing was about to leave, Rong Kai stared coldly at her arrogant retreating back and said,
“Miss Xiao, due to your earlier frivolous behavior and disrespect towards your superior, you are hereby dismissed from Kingyi’s Kang City branch. Leave my sight immediately.”
Furious at being fired, Xiao Jing glared at Rong Kai arrogantly, shouting, “Who do you think you are? On what grounds do you fire me? I have connections at headquarters—try firing me without their approval!”
Ignoring her outburst, Rong Kai picked up the phone and called the security office. “Security? This is Rong Kai. Please come and help me clear the trash from my office.”
Security officer Xiao Zhu was puzzled. He looked at veteran officer Lao Zhong and said, “The new general manager just called and asked us to clean the office trash. Isn’t that a janitor’s job? Maybe he dialed the wrong number.”
Lao Zhong, cautious and experienced, replied, “Xiao Zhu, I’ll come with you to check.”
When the two security officers arrived, they realized Rong Kai’s “trash” referred to Xiao Jing.
They awkwardly looked at Rong Kai. “General Rong, you don’t mean Manager Xiao, do you?”
Rong Kai didn’t even glance up, focusing on his computer screen as he replied indifferently,
“Yes. She is no longer with Kingyi Kang City branch. Please escort her out.”
Xiao Jing cursed and shouted at Rong Kai. At that moment, her phone rang. A man’s voice erupted with curses on the other end.
“You disgraceful woman! Why are you still lingering around General Rong? You clueless fool. I told you not to cause trouble, but you insisted on stirring things up. Don’t forget, he’s the boss’s direct appointee. You’re just asking for trouble... Now get out of here!”
