Chapter 51: Special Circumstances Require Special Methods
Not envious, not in the slightest.
I, Meng, sighed inwardly, then turned my gaze to the villa next door and stepped forward to press the doorbell.
Qiao Zhe, seeing how dejected I looked and how unwilling I was to speak, exposed me. “Are you wishing you had superpowers too?”
He had immediately seen through the look in my eyes when I glanced at the Blue Jewel Ring just now.
“No, not at all!” Startled at being found out, I tried to act unconcerned. “I’m not the least bit envious!”
“Actually, you could probably do it too,” Qiao Zhe said, a teasing look on his face.
“Really?!” At his words, my face instantly lit up and I asked without thinking.
But as soon as the words left my mouth, I realized how eager I must have seemed, so I quickly covered up, “I’m just curious, that’s all.”
Qiao Zhe didn’t make fun of me for trying to hide it.
“After you got the Gaia’s Light, you haven’t done anything with it except transform, have you?”
Seeing my puzzled look, he continued, “Try using the quantum accelerator again and meet with Gaia. Make some requests—you might be surprised.”
“Will that work? Isn’t it a bit much?” I felt uneasy about it.
Ever since I’d gotten the power to transform, I truly hadn’t used the quantum accelerator again.
Qiao Zhe cast me a sidelong glance. “Did Fujimiya ever look embarrassed about it?”
“In any case, just try. The child who cries gets the milk—you have to speak up so Gaia knows what you want.”
Hearing this, I fell into thought. What he said made some sense.
Qiao Zhe was considering things for me by telling me to seek out Gaia. After all, since Fujimiya hadn’t made any mistakes now, he might not hand over the Ocean’s Light to me again.
If I wanted to grow stronger, I could only turn to Mother Earth for power.
Even if Gaia no longer had the supreme form, there was still V2, V3, V4—maybe these would suit me better.
After a short wait, the villa’s front door didn’t open; instead, a boy’s wary voice sounded from inside, “Who are you?”
He was peering through the peephole, guarded.
I stepped to the center of the door and tried to make my smile as gentle as possible. “You’re Shuzo, aren’t you? We’d like to talk to you about your ancestor, the Demon Ghost Juro.”
“How do you know?!” Shuzo’s voice was filled with astonishment.
Lately, he’d been having the same nightmare, always about someone named Demon Ghost Juro.
I could hear the wariness in Shuzo’s voice, so I called inside, “You don’t have to be afraid. We’re here to help you!”
There was a moment of silence from behind the door.
“Just go,” Shuzo said, thinking of the terrifying Demon Ghost Juro. “You can’t help me.”
He had no idea how these two knew about Demon Ghost Juro, but he didn’t want to drag anyone else into it.
I wanted to say something more, but Qiao Zhe gave my arm a pat.
“Let’s go,” he said, turning to walk down the alley beside the villa, as though he really intended to give up.
“Huh? Qiao Zhe-san.” I was puzzled and hurried after him. “Wait, we can’t just leave the boy alone!”
Qiao Zhe glanced back and lowered his voice, “I have another way. Just follow me.”
As our figures disappeared, Shuzo inside the house sank into gloom.
“No one can help me. That thing is too terrifying.”
He returned to his room and sat quietly on the bed.
His mother had died years ago, and his father was often away on business trips. He’d grown used to loneliness, developing an introverted nature.
Recently, he’d suddenly discovered he had superpowers. At first, it was exciting, but soon after came the nightly nightmares.
Lost in thought, Shuzo didn’t notice a faint thread of red energy swirling above his head.
It was Qiao Zhe’s Ultra telekinesis, now being used to hypnotize him.
It was already eight in the evening. The boy was wary; without some other means, who knew how long this would take.
Qiao Zhe absolutely refused to stay up late—he wanted to be back in bed by ten.
Shuzo’s mind grew foggy with sleepiness, and with a soft thud, he collapsed onto the bed in peace.
But soon after, his brow furrowed in distress, as if trapped in a nightmare.
Outside, I watched Qiao Zhe’s actions and felt guilty. “Isn’t this wrong, Qiao Zhe-san?”
Qiao Zhe was using his telekinesis to pick the lock.
“Special circumstances call for special methods.” As he spoke, there was a click and the door opened. “The sooner we deal with Demon Ghost Juro, the sooner this boy will stop having nightmares.”
With that, he entered the villa and headed straight for Shuzo’s room, me close behind.
We made our way to Shuzo’s room.
There he lay on the bed, his face twisted in distress, clearly caught in a nightmare. Qiao Zhe immediately went to him and pressed a hand to his forehead.
Inside the dreamscape.
On an empty stretch of grass, Shuzo stood by the roadside, terror on his face.
Opposite him, floating in the air, was a man dressed like an evil sorcerer, with the hideous Gaan Q behind him.
Now, Gaan Q was missing part of its head, its skull looking as if it had cracked open.
The dreamscape sky was purple, steeped in malice.
Demon Ghost Juro’s voice was deep and commanding. “Your power is a gift from me! That means you have a mission! You must help us complete the spell!”
“A mission? What mission?” Shuzo’s voice trembled as he looked at the terrifying Gaan Q.
Demon Ghost Juro was about to speak again, to further entice Shuzo, but just then—
Golden ripples illuminated the purple sky of the dreamscape.
“What?!” Demon Ghost Juro looked up in disbelief.
But before he could react, red Ultra telekinesis bound him tight and yanked him forcefully away.
Practice makes perfect—after dealing with psychic parasites before, Qiao Zhe had only grown more adept.
In the end, vengeful spirits are just psychic entities—they’re completely suppressed by Ultra telekinesis.
“Argh! Let me go! Who’s ambushing me? Let me go!”
As Qiao Zhe captured Demon Ghost Juro, the hideous Gaan Q behind him vanished.
Shuzo stared, dumbfounded.
He couldn’t believe it—the mighty Demon Ghost Juro was reduced to howling like that.
It seemed there was nothing to fear after all. But then—who was helping him?
He remembered the two people outside his door earlier: could it be them?
As he wondered, Qiao Zhe’s voice echoed into his mind through telepathy.
“Hey, kid, listen to me: a person’s fate should be decided by themselves. You have to take charge of your own destiny!”
“Remember this! My fate is mine to control, not heaven’s! Now—strike back at your ancestor!”
